Dragon Flashpoints: Telling Your Clients What’s on Fire

There’s another reason to celebrate the changing of the season: Dragon Version 9! We’re excited to unveil a new widget and improvements to a few old favorites.

We know that it can be difficult to get a handle on what your data really means for you and your clients. You could use advanced statistics to create meaning from the noise, but who has the time for that? Our new Flashpoints widget does the work for you, allowing you to focus on the results.

Want to know which locations are scoring better or worse than normal? Which standards are improving or slipping? Who is bringing down their region or carrying them? The Flashpoints widget doesn’t just show you your data, it interprets it for you!

Now, instead of you or your client scanning through tables and graphs to look for meaningful data, the Flashpoints widget does the heavy lifting. The widget runs dozens of comparative analyses to reveal the most important data and delivers that information right to your clients. Your clients will love how much time and effort they will save through this targeted approach.

The widget is configurable for any number of flashpoints. It finds the levels or questions that are the most significantly different from the average, as well as how many standard deviations above or below the mean this score lands (we’ll explain standard deviation in a bit more detail later on).
There are three types of Flashpoint widgets: Level Hierarchy, Level History, and Question History. These can be set in the widget settings page:

Want to know for sure which locations are scoring better or worse than average? With the Level History option, you can see how a level has performed versus the past 12 months. In this example, we’re looking at three locations with the widest margin of standard deviations:

If a level scores above the average, the flashpoint is green, and if it scores below, the flashpoint is red. Here we have one location that is lower than average, and two that are higher.
The Question History option is similar, but shows the overall history of a specific question or questions. This can show you which areas are improving and which may need a bit more work. This example is showing improvement in three different areas:

Question Flashpoints get a 5X multiplier in their significance score compared to Location Flashpoints. A very slight change in a question score actually has great real-world significance.

The Level Hierarchy option shows you how a given level compares to any other level within its hierarchy. Let’s say you want to know if there are any locations that are dragging down the scores for the whole region.

You can see in this example that the Rumford location scored way below the average for both Region B and the entire company.

A level will only be compared to another level above it. For example, a level 1 won’t be compared to just any level 4, it will be compared to the level 4 it belongs to.
If you want a different look at how a Flashpoint is trending over time, clicking on it will open a trending graph for the past year, with a dotted line to signify the average:

Standard Deviation

For those of you who don’t take statistics classes for fun, there is text in the glossary that will give you more information on how standard deviation values are calculated.

Here’s a quick explanation for now: A standard deviation is a number that tells us how far away a score is from the average. A small standard deviation means that the score is very close to the average, whereas a large standard deviation means that the score is either significantly above or significantly below the average. This gives you a quick tool to see which questions or levels stand out.

Sections by Level
The Sections by Level widget now defaults to showing a bar graph instead of a line:

You can still choose the option to show this widget as a line graph.

Cleaner look on the World Map widget
We’ve updated the World Map widget to remove all labels for a cleaner look:

You can easily scan a geographic area for the data you need, we think that removing those labels helps clear things up visually. You can always hover over an area for the exact value of the average score.

Email links

Currently when you use Dragon to send a distribution email, you see two links: one for the PDF of the Dragon view and one for a link to login to Dragon.
You now have the option to only send the PDF link and not the Dragon login link. This is something that we will need to set up on our end, if you are interested in enabling this option please submit a support tracker and someone will reach out to assist.
